Trauma Therapy

I am a trauma therapist and trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Both are evidence-based treatments for PTSD and are endorsed by the Veteran's Administration (VA), and EMDR is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).  EMDR is an exposure-based treatment that involves bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or tones) to help calm the mind while bringing up traumatic experiences, and it helps replace negative beliefs about self with positive, more adaptive ones.  CPT doesn't require the person to do exposure but focuses on a person's negative thoughts and beliefs about the trauma called "Stuck Points" and helps change thinking.  The choice of which approach to use is totally up to my clients.
